About Mr Bick.

I graduated in Medicine at the University of Cape Town in 2001, and completed my specialist training there in 2012. To expand my experience and skills I spent 3 years completing fellowships in knee surgery, hip surgery and trauma surgery between 2013 and 2015 under several renowned surgeons and specialist in Bristol, UK. During this time I committed to a career in the NHS, specifically at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, successfully completing my UK specialist examinations in 2015 and subsequently achieved General Medical Council recognition and specialist register number https://www.gmc-uk.org/registrants/6065776 . Hard work and patience paid off and I was appointed as a full-time consultant after the following 18 months spent as a locum consultant in Bristol. This is now my permanent home both in work and life.

My work is in hip surgery, and I remain fully employed by North Bristol NHS Trust https://www.nbt.nhs.uk/our-services/a-z-consultants/mr-simon-bick in both elective and trauma surgical capacities. Southmead Hospital is a Major Trauma Centre and the Trauma and Orthopaedics department remains one of the most busiest and productive in the country.

Private practise is a part of what I do, currently in Bristol at the Spire Hospital https://www.spirehealthcare.com/consultant-profiles/mr-simon-bick-c6065776/ and Nuffield Hospital https://www.nuffieldhealth.com/consultants/mr-simon-bick. I work with highly skilled and motivated colleagues across both sites.

From a young age I have always been mad about as many sports as possible, and I continue to do so, although I’m not as fast as I once was! I enjoy the freedom and health that sport and exercise provide, it acts as a fantastic way to balance the busy work environment I am in. I love taking on different challenges, whether it be ultramarathons, bikepacking, triathlons or hiking. As an example, in 2025 I raised over £1200 for the British Heart Foundation during a 46 mile trail run.

Growing up in South Africa has also nurtured in me a love of watching sport, having barbeques (braais!), an interest in different places and cultures, and a focus on spending good quality time with my family. Having a wonderful family of my own has been my biggest and most fulfilling achievement.
